Trauma & History

Therapy for Trauma and complicated upbringings. In person therapy in Asheville, NC and via telehealth throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia

Trauma isn't only the big, obvious stuff. It can also be the way you grew up: learning to read the room, keep the peace, be low-maintenance, be the good one. Over time, a lot of women end up organizing their whole lives around everyone else's expectations.

You may not call that trauma. You may just notice that it's showing up in your relationships, your work, and how you treat yourself.

What this work can cover:

  • Specific events you'd rather not think about, and how they still show up

  • Family patterns and the role you played growing up

  • Relationship patterns you keep repeating

  • A harsh inner critic that sounds a lot like someone you knew

  • Feeling like you can't stop holding it together, until you can't

  • A complicated relationship with alcohol or other substances

How I work with it:

We go at a pace that works for you. You don't have to tell me everything on day one, and you don't have to relive anything to heal from it.

I use EMDR, a structured therapy used to process difficult memories and experiences, along with other approaches like IFS and ACT. Read more about EMDR and how I work.

If this sounds like you, I'd be glad to talk.
